Knights of Santiago Est.,
1995 unofficially.
First Faire officially Pittsburgh, CA 1997
The
Knights of Santiago Renaissance Re-enactment Guild grew out of a
desire to portray Spain and the Spanish in a truer and more positive
light. Most faire are strongly English or Irish and often the
perception of Spain is negative, and that all Spaniards are “bad”.
In the
beginning we only wanted to open the door and allow patrons to see
that the world during the renaissance period was not only England and
the British isle. We were the “good” Spanish who bring greeting from
our King and our lands. This idea of the “good guys” has kept us
afloat when others would attempt to sinks us. Through the years we
have grown to a great family which representation the different
aspects of the Spanish and we hope creates a positive role for guild
to attain.
The
Knights of Santiago always welcome those new prospects willing to
portray the Spanish in a positive way. As long as we maintain a
purpose for the betterment of the Renaissance faire way, we will
always be here.
We will
always offer a home for those who have no home of their own, or just
may need a place to hang their cap until they are able to see clearer
roads. May the ways of Santiago find a path into everyone hearts.
Until we meet at faire,
may the Ale masters, continue
brewing and may your cup never be empty.
